Description
Caragana arborescens Walker is a top-grafted shrub that forms a compact weeping feature, with branches falling toward the ground. Fine, light green compound foliage gives the crown a delicate texture, while lightly fragrant yellow pea-like flowers appear in May and June.
Choose full sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. The plant tolerates poor soil and high winds but grows poorly in high-pH conditions and under strong weed competition. Remove shoots that emerge below the graft. The finished height depends on the grafting height; multi-location trial plants were grafted at about 5 feet.
