Description
Cotinus Grace brings bold scale and changing color to a sunny shrub border. Rounded red-purple spring leaves deepen toward purple and blue-green in summer, when large pink plumes create the soft, smoky display. The foliage then turns vivid red, orange, and yellow before falling.
Plant this vigorous deciduous shrub in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun produces the strongest leaf color, although partial shade is suitable. Water deeply during establishment and mulch with well-rotted compost in spring.
Allow generous space for its rounded, spreading framework. Light pruning in late winter or early spring preserves the summer plumes while removing dead, crossing, or misplaced branches.
