Description

Panicum virgatum Blood Brothers forms an upright, slightly vase-shaped clump of blue-green blades whose tips develop blood-red and burgundy tones from midsummer into fall. Airy reddish panicles rise above the foliage in late summer, then mature toward tan while the clump keeps its vertical structure.

Plant in full sun and moderately moist, well-drained soil. Avoid shade and overly rich ground, which can weaken the upright form. Water regularly during the first season, then cut the clump back in early spring before new growth begins. Divide established clumps in spring when needed.

Switchgrass can be toxic to grazing animals if eaten, so keep it out of livestock areas.
