Description

Pachysandra terminalis creates a dense, glossy evergreen carpet beneath trees and in other deeply or partly shaded places. Short spikes of small white flowers rise from the green foliage in spring.

Its spreading rhizomes cover bare soil and help control erosion on banks and slopes. Plant in moist but well-drained soil, preferably enriched with organic matter, and water during dry spells while the mat establishes.

The ground cover can spread beyond its intended bed, so plan a boundary or remove outlying shoots where expansion is unwanted. It also works along shaded borders, foundations, and courtyard plantings.
