Description
Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Bluecrop’ is a vigorous, bushy blueberry that combines a productive summer display with colorful fall foliage. Small white, urn-shaped spring flowers develop into clusters of firm, light-blue berries with a rich flavor, while the green leaves turn yellow and red in autumn.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained, acidic loam or sandy soil. Choose a sheltered position, mulch with organic matter, and keep the shallow root area evenly moist without waterlogging. It also grows well in a large container filled with ericaceous compost.
The shrub is self-fertile, but another blueberry cultivar flowering at the same time can improve berry size and yield. Begin late-winter pruning from the third year, removing old unproductive canes and thinning weak twiggy growth. Its compact scale works well in borders, courtyard gardens, wildlife plantings, and patio containers.
