Description
Malus domestica Gala is a rounded deciduous dessert apple tree. Pink buds open to fragrant white spring flowers, followed by crisp yellow apples heavily flushed and striped red from late summer into autumn.
The juicy cream flesh has a mild, rich sweetness with slight tartness and suits fresh eating, salads, cooking, sauces and juice. Gala is partially self-fertile, but a compatible apple flowering at the same time improves fruit set and crop size.
Grow this tree in full sun with open air movement and fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water during establishment and dry periods, thin crowded fruit, and prune for a productive open crown.
