Description
Sorbus aucuparia Rossica is a deciduous tree with a uniform, upright oval to pyramidal crown. A mature tree is documented at about 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide. Its pinnate leaves are deep green in the growing season and become yellowish red in fall.
Flat-topped clusters of white flowers open in May. Bright red fruit follows in fall, and birds visit the fruit. The fruit clusters are reported to be larger than those of the species.
Grow this tree in full sun in acidic, well-drained soil and keep the soil moist. It is not tolerant of heavily urban conditions. Fire blight, canker, and sunscald have been reported.
