Description
Pink plumes rise above the compact, upright foliage of Miscanthus sinensis Nippon in late summer, turning silver as fall advances. Narrow green leaves arch outward and take on orange fall color, while the standing clump continues to give winter form.
Use this grass in a sunny border, an urban garden, or as a compact screen. It grows in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil and handles a broad range of soil types. Cut the dead foliage and old flowering stems back in spring, and divide established clumps in spring.
The sharp leaf edges can cut skin, and the dry foliage has high flammability. Wear gloves during handling and check local invasive-plant guidance before planting.
