Description

Festuca Glauca Elijah Blue forms neat cushions of very fine ice-blue foliage. The cool color lasts through the seasons and gives sunny containers, gravel beds, and flat garden edges a crisp finish. Light flower panicles emerge in spring and summer, changing from green to soft brown. The compact grass repeats well through a planting without crowding nearby flowers.

Grow it in full sun and sharply drained soil for the strongest blue color. Water while roots establish, then keep the soil dry to moderately moist. A thin spring compost layer is enough because rich feeding can make the blades floppy. Comb out old foliage before new growth lengthens and remove faded flower stems if desired. Divide older clumps when their centers weaken, and avoid wet crowns that can rot.
