Description
Festuca glauca Beyond Blue keeps its intense powder-blue color through every season. Fine blades gather into a compact rounded mound that gives sunny containers and flat border edges a clean finish. Airy green-to-brown flower panicles add gentle movement in spring and summer without hiding the foliage. The small size makes repeated planting easy in gravel and rock gardens.
Plant it in full sun for the strongest blue color and use sharply drained soil. Water during establishment, then keep conditions dry to moderately moist. A thin compost layer in spring is enough, since rich feeding can loosen the mound. Comb out old blades in early spring and remove spent flower stems in summer if desired. Divide aging clumps when their centers begin to thin, and avoid wet soil that can cause crown decline.
