Description

Strelitzia nicolai White Bird is a large, bold plant grown for its dramatic leaves and strong upright shape. It brings a tropical feel to planting and works well as a statement plant where height and structure are needed. The broad, banana-like leaves are green through the year and give the plant a lush, full look. Mature plants may produce white flowers with blue details, but this is uncommon in ordinary indoor or container growing.

This plant is valued mainly for its foliage and upright habit rather than for bloom. It suits tropical-style planting, large patio containers, and sheltered borders in warm conditions. It also works well as a houseplant when given bright light and enough space, though it is usually treated as an outdoor plant first. Growth is clump-forming and upright, with older stems becoming woody and helping the plant develop a bold outline over time.

Care is fairly simple once the plant is established. Old or damaged leaves can be cut away at the base, and heavy pruning is rarely needed.
