Lettuce aquatis/Spearwort

Description

Lettuce aquatica, also known as Spearwort, is an aquatic plant with long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves that float on the surface of ponds or lakes. It thrives in shallow, still, or slow-moving freshwater and prefers full sun to partial shade. This plant can form dense mats that provide shade and shelter for aquatic life, helping to regulate water temperature and improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients. While Spearwort adds beauty and ecological value to water gardens, it requires careful management to prevent overgrowth, which can crowd out other plants and disrupt the balance of the ecosystem.
