Description
Metasequoia glyptostroboides develops into a tall, narrowly pyramidal deciduous conifer with feathery green foliage and fibrous orange-brown bark. Its leaves turn tawny yellow-brown in fall before dropping, exposing the fluted trunk and spreading branch structure.
Give this fast-growing tree ample room in full sun and humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well. It also tolerates occasional wet conditions. Little routine pruning is needed, and the tree works best as a large architectural specimen, screen, or windbreak.
