Description
Betula pendula Royal Frost pairs purple-bronze foliage with white bark on an upright pyramidal tree. It grows about thirty to forty feet high and fifteen to twenty feet wide, then turns yellow in autumn.
Use this birch as a specimen, accent, or naturalizing tree in a sunny or partly shaded garden. It grows in chalk, clay, loam, or sand across acid, neutral, and alkaline soils, provided the root zone stays moist and well drained.
Water regularly while roots establish and during dry weather. Apply organic mulch over the root zone without touching the trunk. Test the soil before feeding, and water fertilizer into the soil when a nutrient deficiency is confirmed. Pollen from this birch can trigger inhalant allergy in sensitized people.
