Description
Tall panicles of nodding, creamy-white bells make Yucca filamentosa a striking summer focal point above deep green, sword-shaped rosettes edged with distinctive curling threads.
The stemless evergreen clumps suit sunny, well-drained borders, courtyards, coastal gardens, and Mediterranean-style planting, while the plant tolerates drought, heat, salt spray, deer, and rabbits. The flowers attract hummingbirds and moths, including the specialized yucca moth that pollinates the plant.
The flowers are edible and have a mildly bitter artichoke-like taste. Sharp leaf tips can injure on contact, handling may irritate skin, and the plant is toxic if eaten by pets or grazing animals; use care when siting and handling it.
