Description

Arching stems carry a profusion of soft pink-to-white bell-shaped flowers with yellow throats from late spring into early summer, giving Kolkwitzia amabilis a clear role in informal hedges, screens, and flowering borders.

This deciduous shrub matures around 6.5 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Full sun brings the best flowering, while partial shade also suits it. Plant in moist but well-drained or well-drained soil and remove older stems at ground level immediately after flowering.

Flowers attract pollinators, and deer resistance can help reduce browsing. Gray-brown bark flakes on older stems, adding winter detail after the leaves fall.
