Description

Hibiscus syriacus Red Heart is an upright rose of Sharon with green, coarsely toothed leaves and large single white flowers. Each trumpet-shaped bloom carries a vivid deep-red eye that follows the petal veins and stands out from midsummer into fall.

Plant it in full sun in fertile soil that drains well. The established shrub accepts ordinary garden conditions and can serve as a flowering screen, border anchor, or specimen.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth expands. Water deeply during establishment and prolonged drought, and remove unwanted seedlings if they appear around the parent shrub.
