Description

Large violet-blue flowers open around maroon centers from summer into fall on Hibiscus syriacus Oiseau Bleu. The single blooms stand out against dark green, lobed leaves and give hedges, screens, and the back of a sunny border a long late-season show.

This upright, bushy deciduous shrub grows about 5 to 8 feet tall and wide. Plant it in a sheltered site with full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Water deeply while roots establish, then allow the soil surface to dry between waterings. Prune lightly in spring to shape the shrub and support flowering on new growth.
