Description
Berberis thunbergii Concorde forms a low, dome-shaped deciduous shrub with dark velvety purple foliage. The leaves turn scarlet in fall, and mature plants reach about 18 inches tall and wide.
Red-tinged pale yellow flowers appear in spring. Sharp spines can puncture or scratch skin, and the ornamental fruit is not to be eaten.
Plant it in full sun or partial shade and in moist but well-drained or well-drained soil. Use it for edging, low hedges, containers, flowering borders, or urban courtyards. Trim hedge growth after flowering when needed.
