Description
Rosa rugosa Alba forms a vigorous, rounded deciduous shrub with glossy, strongly wrinkled green leaves. Fragrant single white flowers, opening from blush-pink buds, continue through summer and autumn before large scarlet hips extend the ornamental display.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is well suited to an informal hedge or coastal garden, but allow room for its spreading growth and remove unwanted suckers. Prune dead or congested wood in late winter or early spring, wear gloves around the very prickly stems, and do not eat the ornamental hips.
