Description

Rhododendron dauricum is a compact, bushy shrub with small leathery green leaves and clusters of funnel-shaped pink to violet-pink flowers from late winter into spring. Its very early blooms bring winter interest and attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Grow it in sheltered partial shade and acidic, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Mulch the shallow roots, keep them from drying out, and avoid waterlogged conditions. All parts are toxic if eaten by people, pets, or grazing animals; keep plant material out of reach.
