Description
Rudbeckia hirta Indian Summer produces huge golden yellow daisies with dark brown centers. The broad flowers rise on upright stems above a bushy green clump and create a bold summer display in borders. They also support pollinators and provide large stems for cutting. Mature plants reach about 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide.
Grow it in full sun, with light shade tolerated. Water regularly while the roots establish, then keep the soil moderately moist and well drained. Add compost in spring only when the soil is poor. Remove faded flowers through summer to extend bloom, then cut old stems back in late fall or early spring. Grow plants from seed or divide established clumps in spring.
