Description
Fresh red, orange, yellow, pink, and white flowers give Oreomecon nudicaulis Champagne Bubbles Group a lively late-spring and early-summer display. The single, lightly crinkled flowers rise on strong upright stems above finely divided green foliage. This poppy fits sunny beds, containers, and cutting gardens. Its flowers are fragrant and attract bees and butterflies.
Plant it in full sun and well-drained chalk, loam, or sandy soil. A south- or west-facing position works well. Space plants about 20 cm apart, water regularly while excess moisture drains, and apply a slow-release fertilizer once in spring.
Deadhead faded flowers through the blooming season to extend the display. Watch for aphids and signs of downy mildew, powdery mildew, fungal wilts, or Verticillium wilt. This plant is poisonous if eaten, so keep pets and children from chewing it.
