Description

Geranium macrorrhizum ‘Ingwersen’s Variety’ is an accepted rhizomatous perennial cultivar in Geraniaceae. Direct exact-cultivar evidence supports a mature height and spread of 30-45 cm and USDA zones 4-8. It forms a dense, spreading, semi-evergreen mound of rounded, deeply lobed, strongly aromatic bright-green leaves that can turn orange and red in autumn. Pale pink, five-petalled flowers with darker deep-pink calyces appear from late spring into early summer; RHS directly documents a flower width of 25 mm, stored here as 2.5 cm without inference from photographs. Grow it in full sun, partial shade or full shade in acid, neutral or alkaline chalk, clay, loam or sand, provided the soil is moist but well drained or well drained and never waterlogged. Established plants tolerate drought and dry shade. Use as low-maintenance groundcover, for naturalizing, erosion control, wildlife gardens, border fronts and underplanting roses or shrubs. Divide in spring or take basal cuttings in early to mid-spring with bottom heat.
