Description
Airy purple flower panicles rise above arching gray-green leaves in summer, then mature to gold through autumn on Celtica gigantea. The tall stems bring movement and a soft shimmering sound to sunny borders.
This tufted evergreen grass grows about 5 to 8 feet tall and 20 to 40 inches wide, making it a strong architectural accent in a border or a graceful repeated group. Its seed-bearing display attracts songbirds, while the plant is also deer resistant and drought tolerant once established.
Grow it in full sun in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained or well-drained soil. Water regularly while new plants establish, remove dead foliage and old flower stems in spring, and divide established clumps every few years to maintain vigor.
