Description
Digitalis mertonensis Summer King sends upright racemes of large strawberry-pink bells above glossy dark green rosettes, with crimson-purple spotting visible inside each tubular flower.
Its clump-forming growth brings vertical color to borders, cottage gardens, and open woodland planting from late spring into summer. Nectar-rich flowers attract bees and hummingbirds, while the sturdy stems can also be cut for arrangements.
Grow it in full sun or light dappled shade in humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains freely. All parts are toxic if eaten; wear gloves when handling the plant.
