Description
Delphinium elatum Blue Lace rises from a mound of deeply cut green foliage with sturdy, upright stems packed with semi-double sky-blue flowers touched with lavender pink. Its tall summer spires bring clear vertical structure to cottage borders and make elegant cut flowers.
Plant it in fertile, moist but well-drained soil where it receives full sun or light afternoon shade and shelter from strong winds. Stake the stems where exposure demands it, feed during active growth, and remove the first spent flower display promptly to encourage a later flush.
Allow generous spacing for air circulation, watch young growth for slugs and snails, and keep every part away from people and pets who might eat it. Three or five plants create a strong, coordinated display behind lower companions.
