Description
Campanula glomerata Joan Elliott is a vigorous deciduous perennial that forms a broad clump of deep-green ovate leaves. Upright stems carry dense terminal and upper-axillary clusters of deep violet-blue to purple bell-shaped flowers in early and midsummer.
Ultimate size ranges from about 4 to 20 inches high and 20 to 39 inches wide, with many garden plants reaching about 20 inches by 30 inches. Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile neutral-to-alkaline soil that stays moist but drains freely.
Divide established clumps in spring or fall, or take basal cuttings in spring. Cut stems back after flowering to encourage another flush. The spreading habit suits cottage borders, wildlife gardens, cut-flower beds and ground-cover planting.
