Description
Long green blades edged with creamy white make Miscanthus sinensis Variegatus a bright, broad fountain for the back of a border or a seasonal screen. The deciduous clump reaches 5 to 8 feet tall and about 3 to 5 feet wide, with reddish flower plumes that mature silver in fall and carry the display into winter.
Plant it in full sun and moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly while it establishes, then it tolerates moderate dry spells. Cut the dead foliage and old flower stems to the ground in early spring before new growth starts. Dry foliage is highly flammable, and the sharp leaf edges can irritate skin. Keep this grass away from defensible space around homes.
