Description

Acer tataricum subsp. ginnala develops into a bushy small tree with a rounded crown. Small fragrant cream flowers open in spring, and three-lobed green leaves turn deep red in fall.

The broad crown can screen a spacious courtyard or form an architectural specimen. It also grows in a large container, although the mature spread needs room.

Grow in sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Water while establishing, add mature compost to poor soil in autumn, and prune only lightly. Check local restrictions before planting because Amur maple is invasive in parts of the United States.
