Description
Firm black fruit ripens over a long late-season window on Rubus fruticosus agg. Chester, a vigorous thornless blackberry suited to a trellised edible garden.
Train the semi-erect canes on wires in full sun or partial shade and provide fertile, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil. Harvest runs from August into October, and the firm berries travel well without leaking.
After harvest, remove older fruited stems at ground level and tie the new shoots to their framework. The plant suckers and spreads, so regular training keeps growth within its allotted space.
