Description
Sweet blue-purple fruit makes Prunus domestica Stanley a useful self-fertile tree for fresh eating, preserves, and drying. Fragrant white flowers open in spring, followed by large oval drupes that ripen in September. The greenish-yellow flesh is sweet, juicy, and firm.
This upright, bushy tree reaches about 8 to 13 feet tall and wide, depending on its rootstock. Grow it in full sun on a sheltered site with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Although self-fertile, a compatible European plum nearby may improve cropping. Leaves, stems, and seeds contain toxic compounds and should not be eaten.
