Description
Vaccinium Corymbosum is a native, multi-stem deciduous shrub that grows about 6 to 12 feet high and 8 to 12 feet wide. Its upright, spreading crown carries alternate elliptic to ovate green leaves that turn red, orange, yellow, and purple in fall.
Clusters of small white to pinkish urn-shaped flowers appear in spring and attract bees. The flowers mature into edible blue to blue-black berries with a pale waxy bloom in summer, feeding people and wildlife.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained acidic soil. Keep the shallow roots mulched, avoid alkaline conditions, and plant more than one variety nearby when larger berries and heavier crops are desired.
