Description
Weeping Nootka cypress forms a tall, narrow to pyramidal evergreen tree with a distinctive layered silhouette. Spreading main branches turn upward at their tips while long branchlets hang in loose curtains of blue-gray to dark green scale foliage. The crown becomes more open and sculptural with age, creating strong year-round structure.
Grow it in moist but well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. Full sun suits cooler regions, while afternoon shade helps in warmer parts of its range. Shelter the tree from drying winds, water deeply during establishment, and allow ample room for the permanent crown. Routine pruning is unnecessary and can spoil the natural weeping architecture.
