Description
Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Patriot’ is a vigorous, upright blueberry valued for an early, generous crop and vivid fall color. Pink-tinged white bells appear in late spring, followed by large blue berries with aromatic flavor. Dark-green leaves turn yellow and red before falling.
Choose a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade. The shrub needs acidic, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and benefits from an organic mulch. It accepts heavier soil better than many blueberries, but standing water should still be avoided. Containers and raised beds can be filled with ericaceous compost.
The plant is self-fertile, although a second highbush cultivar with an overlapping bloom period can improve fruit size and yield.
