Description
Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra Luna Roja is an accepted deciduous herbaceous perennial cultivar also sold as Heliopsis helianthoides Luna Roja. It forms compact bushy clumps about 4 to 20 inches tall and 20 to 39 inches wide. Strong freely branching stems carry opposite dark green-purple to green-black deltoid leaves and orange-red flowerheads about 6.3 centimeters across from July through October.
Grow it in full sun in acidic, alkaline, or neutral chalk, clay, loam, or sandy soil that stays moist but well drained.
