Description
Percy Wiseman is a compact, rounded evergreen rhododendron with glossy dark green foliage. In mid to late spring, rounded clusters open in peach-pink and cream, then fade to creamy white around soft yellow throats, so several gentle colors appear on the shrub at once.
Grow it in moist but well-drained, humus-rich acidic soil in partial shade and a sheltered position. It can take full sun where the soil stays reliably moist. Its moderate size suits flowering borders, foundation plantings, low hedges, and large containers filled with ericaceous compost.
Plant shallowly, apply leaf mold to conserve moisture, and water deeply and regularly while the root system establishes. Feed with an acid-formulated fertilizer after flowering. Remove spent flower heads and lightly remove winter-damaged stems in early spring. All parts are harmful if eaten; wear gloves when handling.
