Description

Weigela ‘Minuet’ is a hardy dwarf deciduous shrub about 25 inches tall and wide. It forms a dense, bushy mound of purple-tinged dark green leaves. Lightly fragrant funnel-shaped flowers measure 1.4 inches across, with ruby-red to magenta-rose tubes and outer surfaces, lilac-purple to magenta-purple lobes, and yellow throats.

Flowers appear in May and June. Grow the shrub in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained or well-drained chalk, clay, loam, or sand. It accepts acidic, neutral, or alkaline soil. Full sun gives the strongest flowering and foliage color, while very light shade is also suitable.

Maintain reasonable moisture and good drainage. Prune to shape immediately after flowering because fall pruning can remove the following spring’s flower buds. Propagate from softwood cuttings in early summer. Use it in a low hedge, border, container, courtyard, coastal, cottage, or wildlife garden. Monitor for leaf and bud eelworms, capsid bugs, brown scale, and honey fungus.
