Description
Abies concolor develops into a tall, dense evergreen with a narrow pyramidal outline, horizontal lower branches, and slender blue-green needles that curve upward along the shoots.
The foliage keeps its color throughout the year and releases a light citrus scent when crushed. Upright cones begin pale green to purple and turn brown as they mature, while older trunks develop deeply furrowed gray bark.
This conifer suits large landscapes as an architectural specimen or screen and also gives birds valuable cover and nesting space. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in deep, moist but well-drained soil, with shelter from cold winds and ample room for the mature crown.
