Description
Anemone hybrida Whirlwind carries semi-double white flowers above a dense green basal clump from late summer into autumn. Narrow, slightly rolled petals, several green outer petals and yellow central stamens distinguish each flower, while tall wiry stems keep the display airy.
The vigorous clump fits cottage borders, wildlife gardens and partly shaded woodland edges. Butterflies visit the blooms, while deer resistance adds practical value in perennial borders. The plant spreads rapidly once established and can form a broad colony where space allows.
Plant in soil that stays evenly moist but drains well, and avoid excessive winter wet. Full sun or partial shade is suitable. Water during dry spells to maintain moisture, and cut the stems and foliage back in late autumn. Do not ingest any part of the plant; sap can irritate sensitive skin.
